MBBS in Georgia-NMC Guidelines

Top 5 Countries to Study MBBS Abroad in 2024-25

Medical programs (MD) offered by universities in Georgia are accredited by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, an internationally recognized agency by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). This global accreditation ensures that MD diplomas from Georgia are recognized worldwide, attracting an increasing number of international students.

In accordance with national legislation and regulations on higher medical education, as well as Medical Sector Benchmarks required for accreditation, the duration of undergraduate MD programs in Georgia is 6 years (360 ECTS), including an internship during the 6th and final year. This program is equivalent to the MBBS qualification in India and the UK.

Under the Law of Georgia on Medical Practice, graduates of the MD program are eligible to be employed as junior doctors. This position is available to graduates from accredited medical institutions and allows them to perform medical duties under the supervision of a certified specialist. No additional exams are required for MD graduates to obtain the status of a junior doctor. According to Article 14 of the same law, junior doctors are authorized to fulfill the duties of a doctor and can even provide emergency medical care independently if a certified doctor is unavailable.

This framework demonstrates that medical education in Georgia fully complies with the new rules established by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in India, making Georgian MD programs a viable and recognized alternative to MBBS qualifications globally.
