NEET UG 2025: What’s Changing?

Section B was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide students with flexibility in attempting additional questions. However, the NTA has now removed it, sparking discussions among medical aspirants and educators.

With this revision, candidates will be required to attempt all 180 compulsory questions across three subjects:

  • Physics – 45 questions
  • Chemistry – 45 questions
  • Biology – 90 questions

The total marks will remain 720, and the exam duration will be 180 minutes (3 hours) with no additional time given.

Major Changes in NEET UG 2025

  • No more optional questions – The total number of questions has been reduced from 200 (introduced due to COVID-19) to 180.
  • Reduced exam duration – The time limit has been revised from 200 minutes to 180 minutes.
  • Mandatory attempts – Students must answer all questions, with no flexibility to choose.

Detailed Breakdown of NEET Exam Pattern 2025

Previously, the NEET UG exam had two sections for each subject:

  1. Section A – 35 mandatory questions
  2. Section B – 15 questions, out of which students could attempt any 10

This optionality helped students manage difficult questions by focusing on their strengths. However, with Section B now removed, all candidates must attempt every question provided.

Why Did NTA Remove Section B?

  1. Standardized Assessment – Ensures a uniform evaluation process for all candidates.
  2. Simplified Exam Structure – Reduces complexity by making all questions mandatory.
  3. Fair Competition – Eliminates any advantage of choice, ensuring equal assessment criteria.
